TAXI!

London cab drivers are looking for legislation to protect them.

I can’t wait until they make it illegal to steal from people, assault people, murder people … we’ll be so much safer.

Idiots.

I took a cab the other morning to work because it was raining. Anyway the cab driver and I were speaking about it. A few years ago he was stabbed, and robbed. I got his take on it. He said he wouldn’t mind a partition between the front and back seat of his cab. He said there are not that many jobs you go to, for the pay he is making, and have to worry about being killed for a $7.00 taxi fare. When you are driving and someone pulls out a knife, or starts punching you upside the head, it is hard to defend yourself. Seemed like a sensible safety standard to me.

It is, absolutely. I don’t have an issue with cabbies having a partition, but asking for a law to deter theft and assault makes no sense.

I’m not jaded when it comes to cab drivers. I know a few, and of those, I know a few that have been robbed, one has been stabbed, one has been both stabbed and shot.

As is the case in most situations, it isn’t “all cab drivers” that I wrote this about; it is the ones calling for some law to fix things are the ones I take issue with. What would be the point of a law that says stealing from or assaulting cab drivers is wrong?

BTW, thanks for stopping over. ;)

You’re right, the laws are already in place. They need to do something sensible, like the partitions. This has been going on for years and no one has taken the sensible path to deter the problem.

Laws can be fickle anyways. They can be argued and debated and the whole time, people are getting hurt. Practicality should be held in higher esteem than making laws. Partitions would be a good idea but it makes for an easier get away if you want to skip out on the fare. The argument can be made hat you lock in the passenger for their “safety” but then you delve into “confinement” laws and that argument will go on for years.
